TUPELO – A 22-year search for justice in the 1985 deaths of a Tishomingo County couple concluded Friday with the sentencing of their grandson.
Judge Thomas Gardner sentenced Keir D. Sanders, 43, to life in prison without the possibility of parole for his conviction of murdering his grandmother, Elma Crawford.

Gueary Reed, 72, has been identified as the Saltillo man who died in the accident on the Natchez Trace Parkway in Northwest Alabama. (See post below for details) His wife, Joe Reed, survived the accident. The accident is still under investigation.

A Mississippi man drowned Tuesday when his car left the Natchez Trace Parkway near Central and went into a creek of rushing water, according to timesdaily.com.

The jury in the murder trial of Kier D. Sanders returned a split verdict after five hours of deliberation Friday.

If Sanders is found not guilty by reason of insanity, the jury must determine if he is a threat to society and should be committed to a mental institution. Kier D. Sanders, 43, is charged with two counts of murder in the deaths of his grandparents – W.D. and Elma Crawford. The body of W.D. Crawford was found Dec. 29, 1985, at the couple’s Tishomingo County home at Pickwick Lake. He had suffered shotgun wounds, but died from bludgeoning with a hammer.
